Netflix Notes: Death Comes to Pemberly
It's been over a year now since my husband and I gave up cable, opting instead for a Roku. We've downloaded Netflix (yes, we have a smart TV, but we did it this way, anyway...) and HuLu, along with FeelN and a few others.
I adore watching movies on Netflix. With Netflix, I can not only watch on my television, I can also watch on my computer, my iPhone (itty-bitty picture that it is ...) or an iPad (which my husband has, but I do not). So, pretty much, Netflix goes where I go.
With my busy schedule I cannot always sit down and watch a movie all at once. Most of the "flix" I watch are done in piecemeal, so they'd better be good. Otherwise, after fifteen minutes, I'm done. This does not, of course, go for halfhour TV shows found on Netflix. I pretty much know going in if I do or do not like them.
Just this morning I finished Death Comes to Pemberley, which is the sequel to Pride and Prejudice. The former, based on the novel by written by P.D. James, is the "what happened six years later" to the latter, written (as we should all by now know) by Jane Austin.
On a scale of 1 - 10, I give this British miniseries a 10. Seriously. I could find nothing about it I didn't like. All along, I had the "real killer" pegged wrong, which really thrills me. There is a sweet "love" scene between the (married) Darcy's that I wouldn't want my ten-year-old granddaughter to see, but that I wouldn't blush (much) if my 15-year-old granddaughter watched the scene with me.
Plot Synopsis (from IMDB): Elizabeth and Darcy, now six years married and with two young sons, are preparing for the lavish annual ball at their magnificent Pemberley home. The unannounced arrival of Elizabeth's wayward sister Lydia, however, brings an abrupt and shocking halt to proceedings when she stumbles out of her chaise screaming that her husband Wickham has been murdered.Darcy leads a search party out to the woodlands, and when they discover the blood-smeared corpse, not of Wickham, but his traveling companion, suspicion is at once aroused. The dramatic and unnerving events of the evening have shattered the peace, both of the Darcys and of Pemberley, and as the family becomes caught up in the ensuing murder investigation, a mysterious web of secrets and deceit will threaten all that the Darcys hold dear.
